"Getting the Most from HeritageQuest
Online" - Christine Crawford-Oppenheimer
HeritageQuest Online is a set of databases available through
several libraries in the region or through membership in the New
York Genealogical and Biographical Society. Patrons of
participating organizations can have access to these databases
from their home computer. The databases include over 25,000
scanned books and all available US Censuses (some indexed) with
more material to be available in the future. The talk will focus
on what is available through the service and how to get the most
from it.
Christine Crawford-Oppenheimer is the author
of the book Long-Distance Genealogy: Researching Your Family
History from Home, and has been a speaker at many local and
national genealogical meetings and conferences. |

"I Know It's There Somewhere! Finding What
You Want on the Internet" - Donna Moughty
The Internet is one of the largest finding aids available to
genealogists, but like all finding aids, it's important to
understand how it is organized and what tools one needs to make
the best use of it. Donna will talk about how to use various
search engines, both for the Internet in general and within
specific sites, to locate genealogical information.
Donna Moughty, a former regional sales manager
for a technology company, has been conducting family research
for over 10 years. She teaches genealogy classes for beginners
and lectures on a variety of subjects including Internet and
Irish research. |

An informal program, taking place in the
library instead of in the usual meeting room. Linda Koehler
will demonstrate some of the programs available on the computers
(including the ability to access Ancestry.com online) for small
groups while other members meet over refreshments to talk about
research problems they hope others can give them insight into or
how they have overcome brick walls. |
